The Book. Hattie Mae Bramble's school is holding its Halloween costume contest. Her principal encourages everyone to be original, and Hattie accepts the challenge. So what could go wrong? Follow this self-assured farm girl as she shares her country perspective. Some folks want to trample Hattie's creativity. Will she let them?
Come along as Hattie faces a tough and confusing decision. It all begins as Hattie's fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Brimwood, announces the grade school costume contest in Hattie's classroom...
Hattie Mae's Halloween is a short, illustrated chapter book (74 pages) for middle grade readers, and especially those moving from picture books into chapter books. The black and white paperback, illustrated by Joseph Mugisha, debuted to strong ratings on www.GoodReads.com. Learn more about first-time author Claudine C. Wargel at www.claudinecwargel.com, or follow her on facebook at www.facebook.com/HattieMaesHalloween/.
The Author. Claudine C. Wargel cherishes the childhood she spent among the vegetable gardens, cropland and animals on her family's Midwestern farm. Today, those experiences inform her storytelling, to the delight of young children. Through her writing, Ms. Wargel hopes to transport young minds to a different place, where they, too, can sample the joys of farm life in the Heartland.
