Young Colton Green moves from a nearly all white suburb in the Denver area to the highly Hispanic West Mesa of Albuquerque, New Mexico where he is forced to deal firsthand with the racism of his classmates. Colton moves in during the second semester of the school year, but doesn't make many friends until a teacher pairs him with Vicente Tapia on a cooperative research paper. The two-after a rocky start-learn that they have a lot in common. They learn about Jackie Robinson and racism; they become friends, and they help their baseball teammates overcome their individual differences.
