What's all the fuss? Of course, he's not important. None of you are! -- Donald T. We are DOOMED! In so many ways.
The good news is I have a solution!
Well, not actually a solution but an approach. It's called gallivanting, which most of you will know describes a particular type of exploration that features long strides, loud singing, winding trails that go up and down, sudden gleeful discoveries, and lots of old cheese and dill pickle sandwiches. Gallivanting through DOOM brings a spirit of adventure to all the colossal disappointments that are in our collective face.
You might think that gallivanting through DOOM is unnecessary. That it's possible to continue to pretend that everything is fine, that we can be successful, important, immortal, invincible, in control, right about everything, able to have what we want without sacrifice, be free of anxiety, always be able to enjoy Thanksgiving family dinners, and capable of fixing the world without breaking a sweat. And if things go really wrong, that we can always rely on aliens to invade and save us from ourselves.
You are so deluded! Not even aliens can make this all better.
Let's look into the mirror together and see what's there. You know, take it all in. Maybe we can find a way beyond ignoring or despair, where we can be jazzed about life, balance light with the dark, and savor the DOOM.
Come gallivanting with me. Author Note
