A Guardian's Tale presents one possible scenario as it introduces the Ooracai and the Syree-two alien races from opposite ends of the Universe with very different mores and perspectives. As luck and fate would have it, Earth sits between the two antagonists. The Ooracai are masters of genetic engineering, and they created the Guardians to protect Earth and its teeming populace from the Syree and their creation, the Dominion. The Syree stole the Ooracai's technology and used it to create their own genetically engineered soldiers. The Syree need the Earth as a staging point to launch an invasion of Oorline, the homeworld of the Ooracai. The Dominion's mission is to prepare the way for the invasion of planet Earth by the Syree.

Special Agent Jesse Smalling and her partner Liz Washington are looking for Dominion assets buried deep in the US government. As they get closer to revealing their names, the Dominion decides they are getting too close and sends assassins to America to end their lives and put a stop to the investigation. The Guardians are standing guard over the two agents, only too aware of their danger.
There is a newly elected President in the Oval Office. President Mumford has a secret that could undermine his presidency and place the US and humankind in grave peril. The Dominion has compromised Mumford, and now he must decide if he will honor his pledge of allegiance, ignore the Dominion, and risk his life and his presidency. As the new millennium approaches, the Dominion executes a plan so cunning in its design that not even the Ooracai, for all their skill, foresight, and intelligence, can see coming. As the full horror and utter devastation of the Ooracai and their progeny becomes clear, the future of Earth and Oorline itself hangs precariously in the balance.
