The sixth installment in Hatje Cantz's epic multivolume project, with works from the past two decades

This sixth volume of the Gerhard Richter catalogue raisonné includes a look into Richter's (born 1932) most recent works, from 2007 to 2019, and documents new methods and experimentation. New works include the window at Cologne Cathedral (2007), a two-year project using almost 11,500 squares of multicolored glass created with medieval processes; the Sinbad series (2008), a collection of vivid reverse glass paintings exhibited in duos; the Strip Paintings (2010-11), made through a process of digital printing, which fruitfully expand the notion of what defines a painting in the digital era; and the Birkenau (2014) paintings, based on four photographs taken by inmates of Birkenau concentration camp, copied onto canvas and painted over by Richter. These projects, among a variety of others, are presented alongside extensive technical information on all works, including details of the artist's handwritten notes. Comments, quotations and comparative illustrations supplement the information on the works and serve as a reminder of Richter's place among the most important artists alive today.
