Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Sport - Sonstiges, Note: 1,0, Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit untersucht, ob beziehungsweise wie die Anwesenheit von Kameras das Verhalten von Sportlern am Berg verändert. Als Diskussionsgegenstand und Fallbeispiel dient in dieser Arbeit Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi und Jimmy Chins Film Free Solo. Am 24. Februar 2019 wurde dem Team rund um Regisseur Jimmy Chin und Profi-Kletterer Alex Honnold der Academy-Award für den besten Dokumentarfilm überreicht. Trotz des eher durchschnittlichen Einspielergebnisses von 21 Millionen US-Dollar erregte der Film beachtliche mediale Resonanz. Tom Russo schrieb in seiner Kritik im Boston Globe, dass er überrascht war herauszufinden, dass der erschütterndste Actionfilm des Jahres eine Arthouse-Dokumentation von National Geographics sei. Evan Bush fragte sich in seiner Kritik in der Seattle Times: How can Honnold risk pain to the people who love him in pursuit of a lofty personal goal? Auf der Outdoor-Community Homepage The Inertia lässt sich ein Beitrag finden, der sich mit der Angst vor einer möglicherweise steigenden Rate von tödlichen Bergunfällen durch Nachahmer aufgrund von Free Solo beschäftigt. Der Grund für das Medieninteresse lässt sich hier also unschwer in der ungewöhnlichen Prämisse des Films finden, den 1985 in Kalifornien geborenen Profi-Kletterer Alex Honnold bei seiner Free Solo-Besteigung der 975 Meter hohen Freerider-Route an der Felswand El Capitan im Yosemite-Nationalpark zu begleiten.
