In contrast to the classic military education of Prussian princes, Frederick III's mother, Augusta, attached great importance to a neo-humanist education. Frederick III therefore studied law at the University of Bonn for four semesters. It was popular with German princes for their sons because of its largely non-political spirit and was regarded as the Princes' University. The content of his studies was similar to a full degree course. He studied diligently and learned from professors with different political views, such as Perthes and Dahlmann. There is no evidence that the prince was influenced by liberal views during his studies, for example through the lectures given by Dahlmann. Rather, he seems to have related more to the conservative Perthes.
