Dieses Werk möchte eine Tatsache aufzeigen, die so einfach sie auch erscheinen mag, dennoch komplex ist. Diese Tatsache basiert auf einer Feststellung: Die darstellende Kunst im Kongo ist in ihrer Entwicklung, ihren Themen und ihren Figuren problematisch. Das Hauptziel dieser Studie ist es, zu zeigen, wie das kongolesische Theater entstanden ist und sich schrittweise von ersten Versuchen zur vollständigen Beherrschung der künstlerischen Ausdrucksmittel, von einer Phase der Einführung westlicher Literaturmodelle zur Bekräftigung der Afrikanität und Kongolesität, von der Akzeptanz des kolonialen Reformismus und der Ideologie der Assimilation bis hin zur Forderung nach politischer und kultureller Unabhängigkeit. Denn die Texte ermöglichen es uns, den Einfluss des soziopolitischen Klimas auf den thematischen Ausdruck zu erkennen, wobei jeder gro en Epoche eine bestimmte thematische Haltung entspricht.
