ALTÄRE DER SINTFLUT ist eine reale Forschungsreise durch Java, Sumba und Sulawesi - zu Stufenpyramiden, heiligen Bergen, Megalithgräbern, Totenkulten und Höhlen, in denen einige der ältesten bekannten Spuren menschlicher Bildwelten erhalten sind.
Der forensische Sachverständige und Forscher Miguel Ángel García Sánchez nähert sich diesen Orten mit einer Methode, die seinem Beruf entstammt: Spuren prüfen, Aussagen vergleichen und niemals mehr behaupten, als die Belege tragen.
Auf JAVA führt die Reise nach Gunung Padang, einen der umstrittensten archäologischen Orte Indonesiens. Die spektakuläre These einer paläolithischen Pyramide wurde wissenschaftlich zurückgezogen - doch der monumentale Terrassenkomplex bleibt. Borobudur, Candi Sukuh, Candi Cetho und Candi Kethek zeigen eine andere, ebenso faszinierende Frage: Warum verwandeln Menschen Berge immer wieder in heilige Architektur?
Auf SUMBA ist Megalithismus keine ferne Vergangenheit. Noch heute werden gewaltige Steine für die Toten bewegt. Marapu, Wulla Poddu und Pasola führen in eine Welt, in der Ahnen, Prestige, Opfer, Erinnerung und Stein weiterhin das soziale Leben ordnen.
Auf SULAWESI verändert sich der Ma stab. In Tana Toraja können Verstorbene lange im Haus der Familie verbleiben, bevor die gro en Rambu-Solo'-Rituale beginnen. Felsengräber, tau-tau-Figuren, Menhire und die monumentalen Steinbilder von Lore Lindu machen sichtbar, wie unterschiedlich Gesellschaften mit Tod und Erinnerung umgehen können.
Dann kommen die Höhlen.
In Leang Karampuang wurde eine erzählerische figürliche Darstellung auf mindestens 51.200 Jahre datiert. Im Januar 2026 veröffentlichte Nature für eine Handschablone aus Liang Metanduno auf der Insel Muna ein Mindestalter von 67.800 Jahren.
Lange vor Stonehenge. Lange vor den Pyramiden Ägyptens. Lange vor den ersten Städten.

Doch dieses Buch sucht keine fantastische verlorene Superzivilisation, die alles erklärt. Seine zentrale Frage ist schwieriger:
Warum entwickeln Gesellschaften ohne nachweisbaren historischen Kontakt manchmal erstaunlich ähnliche Antworten auf Tod, Erinnerung, Macht, Ahnen und heilige Landschaften?
Daraus entsteht die Hypothese der konvergenten Antworten: die Möglichkeit, dass ähnliche kulturelle Formen nicht immer kopiert oder aus einem einzigen Zentrum verbreitet werden müssen. Menschen können, vor vergleichbaren existenziellen Problemen, unabhängig voneinander zu überraschend ähnlichen Lösungen gelangen.
ALTÄRE DER SINTFLUT verbindet Archäologie, Vorgeschichte, Anthropologie, Paläogeografie, Religionsgeschichte und Reisebericht zu einer dokumentierten Expedition an die Grenzen dessen, was wir über die Vergangenheit wissen.
