Betty Porter returns to The Gateway Resort on the Colorado River to visit with her friend, Peter Gray, whom she unofficially adopted as a son. She plans to stay all summer and enjoy fishing, swimming and cooking with Peter. Her first week there, however, Betty starts finding dead bodies at the Resort Hotel. She and Peter become primary suspects after the first murder.
