What does the future hold for Islamic finance in France beyond the initial pilot projects? Since the onset of the financial crisis, European banks and many financial institutions worldwide have been weakened. However, some banks have been far less affected by the financial crisis. This is the case with Islamic banks. Today, it is clear that no Islamic bank has a strong network in Europe or even branches established on the continent (except in England, where the first Islamic bank opened its doors in London in the summer of 2008). London has thus succeeded in attracting Islamic banks. This observation raises the question of what the challenges and motivations are for establishing an Islamic bank in France during a financial crisis (2007-2009).
