La Villéliade, ou, La prise du chateau Rivoli is a heroic-comic poem by Barthélemy and Méry, augmented with an additional canto. This satirical work, originally published in 1827, offers a humorous and critical perspective on events and figures of its time. Through vivid verse and witty commentary, the authors present a farcical take on the siege of the Chateau Rivoli, blending elements of epic poetry with comedic flair. This edition revives a classic of French literature, showcasing the sharp wit and social commentary that made Barthélemy and Méry popular voices of the 19th century. La Villéliade remains a testament to the enduring power of satire and the heroic-comic tradition.
