Minerva est une jeune fille âgée de seize ans, de race blanche, née à Bonanjo. N'ayant au grand jamais visité son village, Loumonzila, elle obtient enfin l'accord de son père et décide d'y passer ses vacances. Ayant en tête l'image d'un village ordinaire, elle tombera sur un Lou-monzila complètement primitif, perdu dans les méandres les plus macabres du Cameroun, vivant dans des situations précaires et croyant en des dieux. Dans cette jungle, la sorcellerie fait partie de l'éducation et le mysticisme est une religion. Déjà dans ce gouffre, elle sera, sans raison valable, mêlée aux litiges nébuleux existants entre son père et son oncle, homme bien ancré dans le mysticisme. Cette oeuvre, en dépit de mettre un accent particulier sur le mysticisme et les pratiques occultes propres à de rares bourgades africaines, dénonce de vive voix, la mauvaise gouvernance, la corrup- tion, le racisme, les conflits entre familles, etc. L'auteur lance, à travers ses écrits, un appel à la cessation de certaines pratiques qui poussent plus d'un à s'écarter de leurs villages, traditions et cultures.
Minerva is a sixteen-year-old white girl born in Bonanjo. Having never visited her ancestral village, Loumonzila, she finally secures her father's permission to spend her holidays there. Expecting an ordinary village, she instead encounters a place that is utterly primitive-lost in the most macabre recesses of Cameroon-where people live in precarious conditions and worship various gods. In this jungle, witchcraft is part of one's upbringing, and mysticism serves as a religion. Once plunged into this environment, she finds herself-without valid reason-embroiled in murky disputes between her father and her uncle, a man deeply steeped in mysticism. While the work places special emphasis on the mysticism and occult practices unique to certain remote African villages, it also vehemently denounces poor governance, corruption, racism, family feuds, and more. Through this writing, the author calls for an end to the practices that drive so many people to turn away from their villages, traditions, and cultures.
