Satyre Ménippée, a seminal work of French literature, offers a scathing satirical critique of the Catholic League during the tumultuous late 16th century. This first volume includes a discourse on the interpretation of the word 'Higuiero Del Infierno' and 'Regret sur le Mort de l'asne Ligueur'.
Attributed to a collective of authors, including Jacob Le Duchat, this edition presents a sharp and witty commentary on the political and religious factions vying for power in France. The text lampoons the Estates-General of Paris, exposing the self-serving motives and hypocrisies of its members. Through clever allegory and biting humor, Satyre Ménippée provides invaluable insights into a pivotal moment in French history, solidifying its place as a masterpiece of political satire and a vital historical document.
