Recueil Des Pieces Du Temps is a collection of burlesque and facetious pieces intended to dispel melancholy and provide amusement. Written in French, this compilation, whose title translates to Collection of Pieces of the Time; Or, Curious Diversion to Chase Melancholy, and to Pass the Time Agreeably, Containing Twenty Burlesque and Facetious Pieces, offers a glimpse into the humor and wit of the era. The collection provides insight into 17th-century French literary tastes and the social function of humor as a form of entertainment and critique. This volume showcases the distinctive character of early modern French humor, highlighting its blend of wit, satire, and playful absurdity.
