La Petit-maître En Province is a one-act comedy in verse with songs, by Harny de Guerville. This play offers a glimpse into 18th-century French society and manners. The work combines elements of comedic drama with musical interludes, showcasing the wit and elegance characteristic of the period.
Set in the provinces, the play likely revolves around the interactions and follies of a young dandy, or petit-maître, as he navigates social situations and romantic entanglements. The use of verse and the inclusion of ariettes (short, lyrical songs) enhance the theatrical experience, making it a delightful example of French comedic opera from the era. Readers interested in French literature, theater history, and the cultural nuances of the 1700s will find this work to be of significant interest.
