Les Fausses Apparences Ou L'amant Jaloux is a charming French comedy in three acts, interspersed with ariettes, by André-Ernest-Modeste Grétry and Thomas d'Hèle. This delightful work exemplifies the opéra comique genre of the late 18th century, blending spoken dialogue with musical numbers to create a captivating theatrical experience.
Set against a backdrop of mistaken identities and romantic entanglements, Les Fausses Apparences explores themes of jealousy, deception, and the complexities of love. Grétry's score is light and melodic, perfectly complementing the wit and humor of d'Hèle's libretto. This edition offers readers a glimpse into the world of French theater during a period of great artistic innovation.
