Histoire De L'abbaye De Morimond delves into the rich and complex history of Morimond Abbey, a significant Cistercian monastery located in the Diocese of Langres. As the fourth daughter of Citeaux, Morimond played a crucial role in the proliferation of the Cistercian Order, overseeing approximately 700 monasteries for both men and women. This comprehensive work, originally published in 1852, explores the abbey's extensive influence and its connections to major military orders in Spain and Portugal.
J M Gassier's detailed account compares the notable aspects of different monastic orders, offering invaluable insights into the religious and social structures of the time. This historical study provides a window into the medieval world, revealing the spiritual, administrative, and cultural impact of Morimond Abbey and its enduring legacy within the broader context of European monasticism. A must-read for historians, religious scholars, and anyone interested in the history of monastic orders and their profound influence on European society.
