We really must re-read The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald's novel (1925). The world he describes is one that is quite simply mad with wealth, lavish spending, and social tensions stemming from the vast majority of those excluded from it. Why this reference? Because, time and again, as in a traditional economic cycle, we return to similar situations, with developments disconnected from social tensions, and with outcomes that involve a degree of violence. The aim of this book is to adapt the distribution of income to the new era into which we are entering. To achieve this, we must determine the conditions under which a new trajectory for the global economy might emerge. The key word in this reflection, which has spanned several decades, is 'rupture'. Above all, it is a question of determining the distribution between income from labour and income from capital, with the aim of a 2/3 rule for wages and a 1/3 rule for profits - a necessary but not sufficient condition. This new distribution model is, in fact, optimal for sustainable, resilient and job-rich growth in the long term. This is accompanied by the overarching principles of fiscal policy, which must necessarily be considered as a whole (social security contributions, income, wealth, inheritance, corporate profits, consumption).
