Apologie Royalle by Antoine Piard, sieur du Montguenant, published in 1612, is a significant historical document offering insight into the political and religious climate of early 17th-century France. Written in French, this work serves as a defense of the monarchy and its policies, reflecting the ongoing tensions and debates surrounding royal power and its legitimacy. The book delves into arguments justifying the king's actions and decisions, providing valuable context for understanding the ideological underpinnings of the French state during this period.
This edition offers readers a chance to engage directly with primary source material, shedding light on the intellectual currents that shaped early modern Europe. It remains a crucial resource for scholars interested in French history, political theory, and the history of Christianity.
