The Foundations is a novel written by John Galsworthy, first published in 1920. The book follows the story of a wealthy family, the Forsytes, who are struggling to come to terms with the changing social and economic landscape of England at the turn of the 20th century. The patriarch of the family, Soames Forsyte, is a successful lawyer who is obsessed with his possessions and status, and is determined to maintain the family's reputation and wealth at all costs. However, as the younger generation of Forsytes begins to rebel against their parents' values and traditions, Soames finds himself increasingly isolated and unhappy. The novel explores themes of love, marriage, class, and social change, and is considered one of Galsworthy's most important works. With its complex characters and nuanced portrayal of English society, The Foundations remains a compelling read for anyone interested in the history and culture of early 20th century England.LADY W.
