When her uncle dies unexpectedly, Amber Hasting, an award-winning reporter working the International Desk of the New Your Daily Press, inherits the Rimrock Star, a small-town weekly newspaper. Anxious to leave the noise and congestion of New York City for the peace of a rural lifestyle, Amber relocates to Rimrock, Wyoming.

One day, while grocery shopping, Amber encounters three individuals: a giant, brutish man; a sweet young girl; and a handsome, soft-spoken gentleman her own age. All three identify themselves as Maleakahla Mitchandrosorvos and claim to be different incarnations of a single celestial being, an angel of God. The gentleman persona, Mitch, as he prefers to be called, informs Amber, who is a follower of Jesus, that she has been chosen to deliver seven foretellings to the world. From time to time, she will receive prophecies that she is to publish in the Star. Mitch declines to explain why she has been chosen, nor does he state the purpose of her assignment. Nevertheless, Amber agrees.

Over the course of a year, Amber receives the foretellings. Each is more dire than the last. The world takes increasing notice as the foretellings come true one by one. As the prophecies escalate in severity, the government launches an investigation, but Mitch declines to be interrogated, and the authorities discover they are powerless to force him to testify.

With each horrific catastrophe, the world grows progressively more unstable, and Amber, troubled by the role assigned to her, becomes increasingly reluctant to publish the foretellings. To continue her mission, she must draw upon her faith and trust that God has a plan and that He knows what He is doing. Amber struggles to persevere until the final foretelling when God's purpose is finally revealed, and the terrible tragedies begin to make sense.
