Sixteen-year-old Lucy's life isn't terrible; it just isn't wonderful either. No highs, no lows, no vibrant colors. Just a dull, gray existence where she watches everyone and everything as if from behind an invisible wall.
When she closes her eyes at night, however, she dreams in vivid colors. And she can fly. Sure, she doesn't fly very high, or very well, and it's usually for only a few seconds-it's more like floating, really. But she has had these Dreams for as long as she can remember. She lives for them. They are her world.
That is, until she wakes up on her bedroom floor one morning. On that day, everything she knows comes crashing down around her. On that day, she learns the unimaginable truth and is forced to deal with buried emotions. On that day, she chooses to break through the invisible wall that has been built around her and live.
She just hopes she doesn't fall on her face.
In Floating: The Story of a Girl Who Can Almost Fly, Jennifer Trujillo VanDyke captures the divine spirit of every young woman's heart in a narrative of honest struggle and painful triumph.
This coming-of-age novel blends fun and frustration, faith and failure, the fantastic and the familiar, creating a story that reflects the everyday reality of the reader's life as well as a world of incredible possibilities.
This book is a must-read for anyone who has ever dared to believe they are more than what everyone sees. After all, who doesn't dream of
flying?
