Daily newspaper publishers are currently facing a formidable opponent: the cost of digitisation. How can publishers keep production costs as low as possible while still producing a reader-friendly, informative and up-to-date medium? What factors play a decisive role here? Based on a four-week study period using the Kölner Stadtanzeiger as an example, this paper explains the extent to which flexible text requests from the editorial team can minimise the production costs of an issue and thus enable the publisher to effectively save costs.
