Marshal is five years old, and today is his very first day at Maplewood Elementary School. But there's a problem. His backpack sits on his doorstep with a note attached: I AM NOT GOING.
When Firefighter Finn arrives with Blaze the fire truck and Sparky the Dalmatian, he discovers Marshal's secret: the getting-ready feeling. That nervous, butterfly-filled sensation in your stomach before something new and important. Marshal thinks it means something is wrong. Finn knows it means something brave is about to happen.
Being brave does not mean you do not feel scared, Finn tells Marshal gently. Being brave means you feel the getting-ready feeling and do it anyway.
With Finn's support and a little help from a new friend named Mia who is also nervous about her first day, Marshal discovers that scared and brave can happen at the same time. He paints a beautiful fire truck for the classroom wall, makes a genuine friendship, and learns that getting-ready feelings are not signals to stay home-they are signals that something good is waiting on the other side of the door.
Perfect for children approaching their first day of school, this heartwarming story teaches that nervousness about new experiences is normal, that brave people feel afraid too, and that doing hard things is how we grow. With authentic hand-drawn illustrations and characters children will love, FIREFIGHTER FINN: THE FIRST DAY JITTERS celebrates the courage it takes to try something new-and proves that you don't have to do it alone.
