Scarlett Hayes knows better than to trust hockey players.
Especially Maddox Kane.
He is Ridgeview University's golden-boy hockey star: arrogant, gorgeous, impossible to ignore, and exactly the kind of trouble Scarlett has spent years avoiding. So when she finds out Maddox made a bet about winning her over, she does what any self-respecting woman would do.
She burns the whole thing down.
Maddox knows he screwed up.
What started as a stupid locker-room challenge becomes something he cannot laugh off, especially once he realizes Scarlett is not cold, dramatic, or difficult. She is guarded for a reason. And the more time he spends with her, the more he wants to be the one person who does not push, perform, or take what she is not ready to give.
Their fake arrangement was supposed to be simple: one family dinner, one jealous ex, one chance for Maddox to make things right.
But nothing about Scarlett Hayes is simple.
And Maddox is starting to learn that the hardest thing in hockey is not taking the hit.
It is staying steady for the girl who is finally learning she deserves to feel safe.
Sharp banter, fake dating, college hockey heat, emotional healing, jealous ex drama, and a romance that turns from a reckless bet into something real.
The Fire Bet is Book Two in the Ridgeview University Hockey Romance Series and can be read as a standalone.
