Cold Open
The Spitfires: Book One
Reese Halloran has no time for Brookfield's golden boy.
As captain of the underfunded women's hockey team, Reese is too busy dragging the Spitfires through 6 a.m. practices, broken equipment, forgotten promotions, and an athletic department that thinks lucky to exist counts as support.
Hayes Madden has everything Reese's team doesn't.
Prime ice. A renovated locker room. A program treated like royalty. And a smile so annoying it should probably require administrative approval.
When a schedule fight forces the women's and men's captains into the same room, Reese comes prepared for war.
Hayes comes prepared to negotiate.
Neither of them is prepared for what happens when he starts listening.
As the Spitfires fight for fair ice time, real resources, and a crowd loud enough to make Brookfield finally pay attention, Reese and Hayes go from rink rivals to reluctant allies to the one thing neither captain can afford to become:
A distraction.
Because falling for the golden boy is risky.
Falling for the golden boy while trying to keep the whole story from becoming about him?
That's a whole different kind of trouble.
Cold Open is a funny, swoony, closed-door college hockey romance featuring rival captains, sharp banter, team-first heroines, found-family chaos, slow-burn chemistry, consent-forward kisses, public stakes, private feelings, and one women's hockey team with zero intention of losing.
