Finding Sound is a fictional story about fifth-graders that come from
very different families, but are thrown together on a class project that
creates unusual bonds between kids from different homes.
When young Marcus falls instantly in love with new girl Shell Saine, he
becomes tongue-tied around her. This doesn't dissuade her from finding this
young black boy interesting, 'weird, ' and possibly worthy of being her
friend.
Their assignment to a project means that they work together and begin to
also draw together, forming a bond based as much on their differences from
others as their similar approaches to facing adversity. These are tested
when a predatory youth pastor introduces danger into their lives, forcing
them to make hard decisions between standing up to an adult or keeping
secrets.
