En Escalas a simple vista Clea Saal, una disléxica a la cual el pentagrama le parecÃa particularmente frustrante, reemplaza la tediosa tarea de memorizar incontables escalas con un método visual que resulta increÃblemente simple, uno que permite reducir la estructura de la escala más compleja a algo que puede ser comprendido por un alumno en su primera clase de música.
Si bien este libro fue escrito con los principiantes en mente, cabe señalar que el sistema que utiliza también les puede proporcionar un alivio inesperado a aquellos estudiantes más experimentados, ya que les permitirá visualizar en forma instantánea todos los modos de cualquier escala, y también les proporcionará una herramienta eficaz que les permitirá comprender la estructura de aquellas escalas ajenas a la música occidental.
A pesar de su brevedad, este libro cubre diversos temas. Parte literalmente de cual es la definición de la palabra 'nota' y llega hasta los sistemas microtonales... y lo hace en una forma que resulta perfectamente accesible para quienes no están familiarizados, o no se sienten del todo cómodos, con la notación musical tradicional. De hecho, con la relativa excepción de un capÃtulo dedicado a dicha notación, una de las principales caracterÃsticas de este libro es precisamente que el pentagrama brilla por su ausencia.
