The Exercises of Saint Gertrude: Virgin and Abbess, of the Order of St. Benedict is a book written by Saint Gertrude, a 13th-century Benedictine nun and mystic. The book is a collection of spiritual exercises and meditations that were practiced by Saint Gertrude and her community of nuns. The exercises are designed to help the reader deepen their relationship with God and grow in their spiritual life. The book is divided into two parts. The first part contains a series of prayers and meditations that focus on the love of God and the virtues of the Christian life. The second part contains a series of meditations on the Passion of Christ and the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary. These meditations are intended to help the reader enter into the suffering of Christ and Mary and to experience the depth of their love for humanity.Throughout the book, Saint Gertrude emphasizes the importance of humility, obedience, and detachment from worldly things in order to grow in one's spiritual life. She also encourages the reader to cultivate a spirit of gratitude and to offer their sufferings to God as a sacrifice.Overall, The Exercises of Saint Gertrude is a powerful spiritual guide that offers practical advice and insights for those seeking to deepen their relationship with God and grow in their spiritual life. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
