Eventide is the Christmas celebration that Emerald, Iowa has offered each year since 1990. It begins the day after Thanksgiving and concludes basically when Christmas Eve services begin. Over those four or five weeks, few communities can compare to this one. Lights, activities, walking as the snow gently creates the desired ambiance: it is perfect.
Over the last three years It has become apparent that two couples are getting closer and closer to making decisions about their futures. And Eventide has provided the background for them.
Noel Dahlke and Angela Hakeman have been through an on again/off again relationship. Noel was the culprit. When he moved his business from Mason City to Emerald he showed a spark of commitment. Their romance seems to be smoothly moving forward.
Arlene Plummer and Brian Seagren show similar signs of romantic activity. Arlene works for Angela and both Arlene and Brian are in higher education. One goes to school a half hour away. The other has to travel four to five hours. A strain on the relationship, to be sure. But things are changing.
