In 2004 J Marie Hill's life took a turn for the worst during the next five years. Her first born who suffers with lupus and hypertension finds himself in prison 2 months after his 18th birthday. Shortly after incarceration he is fighting for his life. Her feelings of inadequacy as a mother caused great anguish as she wondered could things get any worse. Unfortunately, just shy of one year she learns that a family friend molests her only daughter at 6 years old. Tormented by this horrific knowledge she is forced to face her demons. For many years J Marie suppressed all feelings and memories associated with her being molested at 8 years old. She began to lose hope in her ability remain emotionally regulated. As she pondered how much more one could bare; she gets a call from the County Detention Center that her youngest son is involved in a crime. Emotionally bankrupt and no money for an attorney, she must also witness her youngest son going to prison. Depression tried to take over as she was stricken with grief and disbelief of the magnitude of suffering and struggles she must endure. With a heavy heart and feelings of defeat, she concluded that she is a failure. With all that is happening in her life is she able to maintain her sanity.
