This work is the first in a brief series of texts relating to the cultivation of an Earthbound perspective upon our general global predicament. We collectively face a common future made ever more uncertain by the growing complexity of our technologically-based systems and our seeming incapacity to manage well our own or others' adaptive behavior in relation to the vital earth. Change begins with the opening of minds, of a collective mindset, and a willingness to explore and experiment with new values, new ideas, and new ways of living and socializing with others. Our sciences are powerful, but alone they are both spiritually deficient to the central task of human survival and they are also systemically underdeveloped in terms of global frameworks for integration and conscientious and deliberate systems development.
