You'll be moved from tears to laughter as your read about Dixie and her Dog-Mama's search for friends. Children and adults alike will enjoy getting to know Dixie and a dozen other real-life neighborhood rescues like Jack, Oakley, Jarvis, and Brinkley. This heartwarming story creatively teaches compassion, friendship, and acceptance of all dogs, regardless of their breed, who ended up in shelters--then found forever homes with loving families. The back half of the book provides a perfect opportunity to educate children about the challenges that rescued pets face. It can be read whole or part based on the child's age and maturity level.
Many underfunded shelters struggle to provide medical attention, shelter, food, and other provisions without the benefit of significant donations and grants. Dixie the Rescue Dog Makes New Friends was written to raise awareness of and funding for 501(C)3 animal shelters that take in hundreds of abused, abandoned, injured, and sick dogs each year.
