As you read this heartwarming true story, you'll be moved from tears to laughter as Dixie, the Rescue Dog, and her Dog-Mama search for friends in their new town. The story creatively teaches compassion, friendship, and acceptance of dogs who have ended up in animal shelters and then found forever homes with loving families.
Children and adults will enjoy getting to know Dixie and a dozen other neighborhood rescues like Jack, Oakley, Jarvis, and Brinkley. Each one has a dedicated profile that tells their unique adoption story.
The back half of the book provides a perfect opportunity to introduce the subject of adopting a pet already in need of a loving home. Parents, grandparents, family members, and educators gain insight into the challenges facing rescued dogs and the shelters that care for them. It's beneficial knowing the book can easily be read in whole or part based on a child's age and maturity level.
This book was written with a big goal at heart --to raise awareness of the challenges facing animal rescues, shelters, and especially under-funded 501(C)3 organizations that take in hundreds of abused, abandoned, injured, and sick dogs each year. The author encourages readers to make a difference through financial gifts, product donations, volunteerism, and event sponsorships.
