Darkness Descends, Volume I in the (Jewell in the Dark) series, is the prequel to The Between Times. While suffering unbearable agony at the hands of 'The New World Order, Rebecca's mind slips in and out of the past. During the torture inflicted upon her, she recollects why it is happening to her and what is at stake in the USA. The new fascist government has enslaved everyone who is not wealthy, sentencing them to a life of squalor, sweat-shops and war. She remembers the prophecy taught to her by her parents that her daughter Jewell has the power within her to use the magic of the between times to gather together the power of the people and overturn the New World Order. It is for this she was born. Rebecca is finally able to call upon the power during the between times and thus find the strength to face the ordeal that is to come. I feel this is a story that deserves to be told. I would like to see it marketed as one novel together with The Between Times. Together they make a great novel that could proudly sit on the same shelf with George Orwell's works. I highly recommend they both be read together and in order. - Franki deMerle, author and poet.
