Matthew's Gospel was written as a handbook for Jews to help them understand how Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures. Jesus didn't drive out the foreigners. He didn't restore Israel as an independent kingdom. He was executed by the foreigners. Witnesses reported that he had risen from the dead and ascended into heaven to rule from there. This was not the expected plan. He came to die in the place of his people and to call all nations to turn from sin and be saved. Jesus told his disciples to take this good news to the world. This is Matthew's eyewitness account of what he saw and heard.
