The Duchess of Malfi is a play written by John Webster in the early 17th century. The play is a tragedy and tells the story of the Duchess, a young widow who falls in love with her steward, Antonio, and secretly marries him despite the objections of her brothers. The play explores themes of power, corruption, and morality as the Duchess and Antonio struggle to maintain their relationship in the face of opposition from the Duchess's brothers and the political machinations of the court. As the plot unfolds, the characters are drawn into a web of deceit and violence that ultimately leads to their downfall. The play is known for its complex characters, vivid language, and intense emotional impact, and is considered one of the greatest works of English Renaissance drama.ANTONIO.
