The Dipavamsa is an ancient Buddhist historical record written by the German Indologist, Hermann Oldenberg. The book is a translation of the original Pali text, which is believed to have been written in Sri Lanka in the 4th century CE. The Dipavamsa is one of the oldest surviving Buddhist texts, and it provides a detailed account of the history of Buddhism in Sri Lanka from its origins to the 4th century CE. The book covers the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, the establishment of the Sangha (Buddhist monastic community), the reigns of the early Buddhist kings, and the spread of Buddhism throughout the island. The Dipavamsa also includes stories of important Buddhist figures, such as the Buddha's disciple, Mahinda, who is said to have brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka. The book is an important source of information for scholars of Buddhist history and provides a fascinating glimpse into the early development of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
