Given the importance of the case, the Chicago Police Department asked retired detective Vincent Chang, then living in Florida, to return to Chicago to head up the investigation. Chang was reluctant. He had started a romance with 24-year-old woman named Torrie Buono and did not wish to be separate from her. Chang eventually accepted the assignment, returned to Chicago, conducted his investigation, and learned that the offender who took Sheila's life was her brother.
