THE DESERT'S TIMELESS DREAM
A Bedtime Story from the Voices of the Earth Series
Written and Illustrated by Junior Guarionex Fajardo
The desert has always been patient. It holds the memory of rain, the silence of ancient rock, and the slow breath of creatures that have learned to survive against all odds. But tonight, something has changed. The desert's timeless dream has gone quiet - and the world needs someone to listen.
In this beautifully illustrated rhyming bedtime story, Bob the Bear, Lola the Rabbit, and Tico the Bluebird set off across the golden dunes under a canopy of stars, guided by the fearless and spirited Hope the Cricket. Together they discover that the desert is not empty. It is not barren. It is alive - and it has a voice that deserves to be heard.
With soothing rhymes crafted for bedtime reading and rich, painterly illustrations full of warmth and wonder, The Desert's Timeless Dream invites children to fall in love with one of Earth's most misunderstood ecosystems. This is a story about listening. About courage. About understanding that every corner of our natural world matters.
Recommended for children ages 3 to 8. Ideal for read-aloud at bedtime, in classrooms, and in libraries.
Also available in Spanish as El Dulce Sueno del Desierto.
ABOUT THE VOICES OF THE EARTH SERIES
The Voices of the Earth is a bilingual children's book series where the great ecosystems of our planet speak directly to the hearts of young readers. Each book visits a different natural world - the ocean, the forest, the mountains, the polar ice, the desert, and more - through the eyes of the same beloved group of friends.
Bob the Bear is the calm and gentle heart of the group, always steady, always kind, carrying his trusty green backpack wherever the adventure leads. Lola the Rabbit is fearless and full of energy, the first to leap into any situation with her orange neckerchief flying behind her. Tico the Bluebird is quiet and thoughtful, watching the world with curious eyes from beneath his small blue beret. And Hope the Cricket is the guide - small but mighty, wise beyond her size, the one who helps the group understand what the Earth is trying to say.
Together they travel from ecosystem to ecosystem, each book standing on its own while building a larger universe - a world where nature is not a resource to be used, but a family to be cherished.
The series is designed to grow with your child. The gentle rhymes and vibrant illustrations make early books perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, while the environmental themes and emotional depth give older children and parents rich material to explore together. Every book is a conversation starter about the natural world, conservation, empathy, and our shared responsibility to the planet.
BILINGUAL FROM THE BEGINNING
Every book in the Voices of the Earth series is published in both English and Spanish, making this series an ideal resource for bilingual families, dual-language classrooms, ESL programs, and Spanish immersion education. The Spanish editions are full translations - not adaptations - preserving the rhyme, rhythm, and emotional tone of the original.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR
Junior Guarionex Fajardo is an independent author, illustrator, and environmental artist based in Miami, Florida. He grew up on a farm in the Dominican Republic, where his earliest memories were shaped by rivers, forests, and a deep connection to the land. Years later, returning to his childhood river and finding it devastated by pollution became the defining moment that inspired the Voices of the Earth series.
His middle name, Guarionex, honors the last great Taino cacique - a tribute to indigenous heritage, to roots that run deep, and to a way of seeing the world where nature and humanity are inseparable. That philosophy lives in every page of every book he creates.. Visit amazon.com/author/jhfajardo7
