Elmer P. Beauregard is a loud, lovable, deep-fried redneck from Possum Hollow, Tennessee. He loves Jesus, barbecue, and saying whatever pops into his head - usually at maximum volume. When he wins a national essay contest with a napkin scribbled at Cracker Barrel, he's invited to Washington D.C. to deliver the keynote speech at a major patriotic rally on the National Mall.
Suddenly, this camo-wearing, hot-sauce-carrying, Bible-quoting good ol' boy is headed to the nation's capital with his sharp-tongued 11-year-old niece Ellie Copper Penny and his pet raccoon Rambo (who believes he's a sophisticated English gentleman trapped in a furry bandit's body).
What follows is a hilarious cross-country adventure full of airport chaos, culture shock, unexpected divine appointments, and one very nervous raccoon. As Elmer prepares to speak in front of politicians, media, and thousands of people, he must decide whether to water down his message to sound respectable... or stand up and tell the truth in his own deep-fried way.
