Meet DayZee! In the sweeping grasslands of Malawi, a remarkable zebra is born with a colorful purple stripe at the back of her neck.
DayZee faces a rough and lonely introduction to the animal kingdom, braving suspicious young zebras and menacing predators. New to the vast African savannah, all she wants is to fit in. Will the other zebras come to trust what makes her unique and welcome her into their herd?
Malawi's panoramic plains, vibrant skies and scenic Lilongwe River provide a radiant backdrop that is visually alluring for children and families alike. Most books in this category retain a generic setting - an unnamed savannah, a tropical jungle. This book sets DayZee specifically in Malawi so young readers experience a genuine sense of place and appreciate her yearning to belong.
DayZee's journey delivers a heartwarming metaphor of courage, self-discovery and the triumph of acceptance. Written for children ages 3 to 8, this timeless tale encourages young readers to embrace the unique qualities that may be their greatest strengths. A percentage of the proceeds from each book purchased supports the vital work of the World Wildlife Fund to protect and restore endangered species.
