Crying out is about a little boy name Tyler growing up in the inner city. Tyler believes God made a mistake because he was placed in a home were his parents were underprivileged. His father was a preacher and his mother was a homemaker between the two parents there were five children four boys and one girl and the baby boy was special and needed additional care. Tyler did not understand why his family was so different from the other families in the small community. Tyler had a devastating experience when he turned six years old. He became confused about his identity and questioned God and wondered why he was placed in such an evil world. Tyler lived in bondage after the devastating experience and therefore did not like living in his current environment. Tyler grew up in a neighborhood where their values and morals were different from his values and morals. His father made everyone in the household read the bible and also dragged the entire family to church. His father lived a double life; he preached one thing in church and after church he did another. His father actions baffled Tyler and he had to struggle to become a young man in the inner-city without a respectable father figure. Tyler witnessed murder, prostitution, and drug activity in his community and because of this Tyler wanted to escape the life he currently lived. His goal in life was to become a Lieutenant Officer in the United States Army but Tyler faced many obstacles while trying to accomplish his goal however the life of the inner city continued to play a vital role in his success.
