L'amour naît ordinairement de l'accueil et de la reconnaissance chaleureuse d'une inaliénable altérité. Cet accueil singulier permet de fonder une ouverture fructueuse sur le monde pour le connaître ou bien pour en aimer les plus mystérieux lointains. Le premier, empirique, interprète les diverses épreuves de l'amour. À l'opposé, le deuxième point de vue considère l'amour créatif des êtres humains soit dans leurs rêves du grand amour, soit dans leurs douces relations accueillantes, partagées ou sublimées. Le troisième point de vue, rationaliste, cherche comment l'amour peut et doit être vertueux.
