三岛由纪夫在《金阁寺》中描述对传统、对美的既爱又憎的微妙心态，在他看来，常见的真善美模式是难以状貌的。他一向追求倒错美学，将金阁寺僧徒的思想和行为作了艺术上的提炼与升华，并在美与丑、爱与憎的紧张对立中创造死与颓废的美，构筑初三岛自己独特的美学世界。三岛写《金阁寺》，是以金阁与人生相比喻，写美与人生、艺术与人生的悲剧性的关系，具有隽永的艺术内涵和哲理意味。
