This research analyzes the translatological problems of cultural references, dysphemisms and puns in the subtitling of the script of the movie Norbit, which represent a challenge for the translator due to their cultural load that, according to Martínez (2008, p. 123), can cause problems when translating if the stored knowledge of the sender and the receiver do not coincide; that is, if the referent is not known in the target culture. In this sense, it will be pertinent to review what Molina (2006) and Lotman (1998) refer to as cultural referents, signs and symbols.
