What happens when a voice from the past is allowed to speak again?
Time Capsule: I Am Made of Chalk gathers a body of writing created between 2009 and 2013-before its author had language for awakening, before departure became irreversible, and before the world he thought he lived in quietly collapsed.
These pieces were written in bedrooms, classrooms, cities, and altered states-during high school, college, and the months following a one-way departure to Mexico that would ultimately lead into Guatemala, ceremony, and initiation. Long withheld, the work resurfaces now as a living record of becoming.
Blending elements of literary memoir, dystopian fiction, and psychedelic awakening narrative, the book moves through three distinct currents: early experimental writing shaped by existential humor and adolescent disorientation; a central dystopian-psychedelic awakening narrative (I Am Made of Chalk); and raw blog entries written immediately after arriving in Central America, capturing the moment of an irreversible threshold and spiritual initiation.
The central piece, I Am Made of Chalk, is a dystopian commentary that now reads as uncannily predictive, portraying a character who grapples with the meaninglessness of a society deeply addicted to technology and substances, amid a widening divide between the rich and the poor.
Written years before the full cultural impact of social media saturation, economic polarization, and digital dependency became impossible to ignore, the work speaks directly to readers navigating similar questions today.
The tone shifts from dark comedy to metaphysical inquiry, from fragmentation to ignition. In hindsight, the thread is unmistakable: a consciousness waking up inside a collapsing worldview.
When the Mayan Calendar turned over into a new Baktun in 2012, some called it the end of the world. For the author, it marked the end of an old life-and the beginning of a new one not yet understood.
