The following genealogical account of the Henzey family, its representatives, and descendants, differs in several material points from that contributed by me to the Herald and Genealogist (vol. 1, p. 421 et seq), and also from that given by Sir Bernard Burke in his Landed Gentry, and Visitation of Seats and Arms, under Pidcock. It is right therefore that the reader should be made acquainted with the following particulars by way of introduction. In the year 1856 I inserted a letter in the Gentleman's Magazine requesting information respecting the Henzeys, Tytterys, and Tyzacks, of whose genealogy I then knew little or nothing. Two letters in reply to my queries, signed Antiquarian, appeared in the Magazines for December 1856 and January 1857; and a further communication signed William V. Tyzack, Norwich, in the Magazine for June 1857, supplied some information concerning the writer's family and armorial bearings. The letters of Antiquarian contained much that was valuable; but though evidently well informed on some points, he did not appear to possess any detailed pedigree of the Henzey family, and he knew nothing about the Tytterys and Tyzacks. A short time afterwards I obtained from Mr. Bate of Kensington a pedigree of the Henzey family purporting to be copied from the MS. of the late John Henzey Bate, found amongst his papers, June 1838, by the late Robert Brettell Bate, one of his executors. Although no authorities were cited, this document appeared to be authentic; and I judged that it had been compiled from family papers, and information supplied from memory by some member of the family.
