Written with remarkable imaginative skill, playwright Marguerite Merington brings to life the trials and tribulations of the young woman Ella who finds herself the step-daughter to the scheming Mrs. Goodwife. This ensemble version of the tale keeps the basic plot points while creating a believable world to surround them in. Unlike other versions of the story, Merington has created stimulating characters and has found the humor as well as the heart of the story. A highly successful playwright, Marguerite Merington achieved early fame when her play Captain Lettarblair became a long running Broadway hit. She is recognized as part of the first group of pioneering woman playwrights who broke new ground.
